The setup decisions that matter most for a private vault.
Set a passcode first
Choose a passcode you can keep safe. Camora cannot reset a forgotten passcode. If you use a backup later, follow the recovery steps shown in the app.
Capture into the vault, not the camera roll
Camora's camera writes encrypted directly into your vault. Photos never enter Apple's Photos library unless you explicitly export them.
Enable Face ID after the first unlock
Face ID unlocks the vault after you have unlocked it with your passcode once. This is intentional. Biometrics alone cannot replace your passcode.

Where is my data stored?
On your device, in Camora's app sandbox, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Nothing is uploaded. There is no Camora server holding your data.
What happens if I forget my passcode?
Camora cannot reset a forgotten passcode or bypass your vault. Keep a passcode you will remember and follow the recovery steps shown in the app if you use a backup.
What is duress mode?
A Pro feature: a separate passcode opens an empty decoy vault while leaving your main vault sealed. It is designed for situations where you may be compelled to unlock your phone.
Does Camora work without internet?
Yes, aside from App Store purchase and restore checks. The vault, camera, document scanner, and notes all work offline.
How do I move my vault to a new device?
Use Vault Backup (Pro) and follow the recovery steps shown in the app. Keep your passcode safe, because Camora cannot reset it for you.
Which devices are supported?
Camora is available for iPhone and Mac. The iPhone app handles private capture and vault workflows, and the Mac app provides a local companion vault with private device linking and transfer.
How do refunds work?
All payments go through Apple. Use Apple's standard refund flow at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What does Pro unlock?
Pro removes the Free plan's 100-item limit and unlocks encrypted backup, duress mode, and advanced capture tools.
Troubleshooting
The most common failure modes and what they mean.
Camora won't unlock with my passcode
Check the passcode carefully and wait for any temporary lockout to end. Camora cannot reset a forgotten passcode. If this happened while moving to a new device, keep the original vault intact until recovery is complete.
Face ID stopped working
iOS revokes biometric access after a forced restart, multiple Face ID failures, or 48 hours since last unlock. Re-enter your passcode once and Face ID will work again.
I cannot recover a vault backup
Keep the encrypted backup file accessible and follow the recovery steps shown in Control. If you are moving devices, leave the original vault intact until recovery finishes.
Restore Purchases doesn't bring back Pro
Restore is per Apple ID. Make sure you're signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID that originally made the purchase. If the issue persists, try Apple Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → Restore Purchases first, then re-open Camora.
